LCC Committees
Members- Dixie Havlak, Arland Schneider, Hilmar Kuebel, Bob Morse
MISSION STATEMENT The Stormwater Committee advises, assists, and represents the Lakemoor Community Club Board in issues affecting the stormwater system for the Subdivision. A stormwater group was formed during 2008, to cooperate with City of Olympia engineers in developing the City of Olympia Lakemoor Flood Mitigation Study. This report, released in October 2008, described the Lakemoor stormwater system and recommended actions to prevent flooding from both overland flow within the subdivision and rising water around Ken Lake. At the November 4, 2008 meeting, the Board voted to have the group become a committee of the Lakemoor Community Club. The Stormwater Committee is cooperating with and advising City of Olympia personnel as they implement the City’s recommended actions for the flood mitigation study. They are also coordinating and leading stormwater mitigation activities by the Lakemoor Community Club. Long term goals of the committee are (1) continued monitoring, study, maintenance and improvement of the Lakemoor stormwater system and (2) evaluating the impact of new development on the Lakemoor stormwater system and Ken Lake. March 12, 2009 Storm Water Update - Arland Schneider The City has continued to work on the Lakemoor Storm water system, and I have talked to their workers some so I want to send out this update.
Gruen
Swale Culvert Inlet:
This culvert inlet
was installed on March 9-10 and looks pretty good. I Storm Drain Outlets near Bob Morse's House: The City workers never removed the rocks in the 15 and 36-inch drain outlets. So last Friday, Jim Nieland and I did the best cleaning job we could with the pipes mostly filled with muddy water. The 15-inch drain was badly plugged, and I believe we significantly increased the capacity of both outlets.
Ken
Lake Drainage Ditch: Since spring is
nearly here, I finished pruning the line of trees below the Ken Lake Culverts. I
removed the small vegetation around the bases of the trees that would restrict
water flow. I also removed limbs that would interfere with driving a mower under
the trees. Swale at 2217 Lakemoor Drive (My House): Yesterday, the City installed a square beehive grate on the catch basin at the bottom of the swale by my house. It looks much better than the old one, but like the Gruen Swale culvert inlet, it will be hard to clean during a storm. This is the type inlet I would like to have installed in the Community Club lot for the Woodland Apartments offsite drainage upgrade. Woodland Apartments: I have not received any new information about the Woodland Apartments, but construction is still scheduled for this year. Someone has put new LOCATE markings on Lakemoor Drive along the Community Club lot, so American Property Development seems to be planning some excavation there. |
